How to install the Roku Smart Home mobile app

The Roku® Smart Home mobile app is a free application for iOS® and Android™ that turns your mobile device into the ultimate smart home manager for all your Roku Smart Home devices including indoor and outdoor home security cameras, video doorbells, smart bulbs, smart light strips, smart plugs, and home monitoring accessories. Easily set up your smart home devices, customize your settings, and more.

Note: The Roku Smart Home mobile app is only available in English in the United States.

Install the smart home app on your device


  • iOS devices: Works on iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch with iOS 16.0 or higher. Download from the App Store.
  • Android devices: Works on phones or tablets with Android 9.0 or higher. Download from Google Play.

How to fix Smart Home App issues


Review the troubleshooting tips below to fix Smart Home app issues on your device.

  • Uninstall and reinstall: Remove the Roku Smart Home app from your device and reinstall it. Sign in.
  • Update your device: Ensure you are running Android version 9.0 or newer and iOS 16.0 or higher on your device.
  • Update the Smart Home app: If you are being prompted to update the Roku Smart Home App, click Update App Now. You can also check for Smart Home app updates on the App Store. or Google Play™ Store.
  • (Android) Update the Google Play Store:
    • Make sure the Play Store app is up to date:
      • Open the Google Play Store app.
    • Tap on your profile icon in the top right.
    • Go to Settings > About.
    • If there’s an update available tap Update Play Store.
  • Restart your device:
    • Restarting the device can help refresh system services, which might resolve the issue.
  • (Android) Clear Google Play Store cache:
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store.
    • Select Storage & Cache and tap on Clear Cache.
  • (Android) Update Google Play services:
    • Open the Play Store and search for "Google Play Services." If there’s an Update button, tap it to install the latest version.
  • (Android) Verify app is installed from the Google Play Store: 
    • Tap and hold the Roku Smart Home app.
    • Tap App Info in the pop-up.
    • Scroll down to the bottom of the screen to the Store section. In the App details, you should see App installed from Google Play Store.
  • (iOS) Check your device is compatible: If your iOS phone or tablet is running an older version or is jailbroken, it may not be compatible with the mobile app. Contact Apple support for further advice and guidance.

Rooted or uncertified Android devices


  • The Roku Smart Home app may not work on rooted devices, unofficial software, or non-Play Protect certified phones.
  • If your device isn’t certified or you’re unsure, contact Google Android support for help.

Note: Supported mobile OS versions are subject to change as required in the future.

After each Roku Smart Home device is set up and added to the Roku Smart Home app, you can access it from the Home screen and:

Can't connect to your Smart Home device?

If the Smart Home app is unable to find your camera, doorbell, bulb, plug, light strip, or home monitoring accessory, get help connecting a Roku Smart Home device.

Roku camera issues

If you are having trouble connecting to the app with a camera, such as the Roku Battery Camera, follow these steps or try camera-specific troubleshooting solutions.

  • Restart from app Settings by scrolling down and tapping Restart, or unplug/re-plug your camera.
  • The Outdoor SE camera has a power switch under the back cover—slide the switch OFF, wait 30 seconds, then switch it back ON.
  • To restart the Roku Battery Camera, press the Setup button three times.
  • Restart the Floodlight Camera by locating the breaker switch that controls power to your camera. Switch in OFF, wait for 30 seconds, then switch it back ON.
