When you activate a new Roku® device, you can add it to your existing Roku account or create a new, free account. Your Roku account stores information about the Roku devices linked, as well as purchased subscriptions, preferences, and account settings. Each Roku device may only be linked to one Roku account at a time.
Roku recommends adding all your Roku devices to a single Roku account so you can keep track of your purchases, payment method, password, PIN, parental controls, and other important information all in one place. When an app is added or removed on one device, the app is automatically added or removed on all devices linked to that account. In addition, your Roku account saves playback in The Roku Channel, so you can start a movie or TV show on one device and resume playback on a different device.
You may prefer to have each of your Roku devices linked to individual Roku accounts so you can control the content on each of the devices separately. For example, one of your Roku devices may have an account that just has kid's apps, while another may have an account with apps just for the parents. A valid, unique email address must be associated with each Roku account in order to manage the account and receive important notifications. Some subscription services allow you to sign in on multiple accounts, while others may limit the number of devices that can be activated. Check with the provider for specific limits.
